Trail of Tears: The Rise and Fall of the Cherokee Nation

In 1835, the most infamous of the many broken treaties was negotiated at New Echota, Georgia, the Cherokee capital. Although the treaty was ratified by only one vote in the Senate and was not accepted by most Cherokee chiefs, it was the beginning of a horrendous forced exile, known as the “Trail of Tears.”
